When plans on paper manifest themselves in the world we live in, you can expect Ahmedabad to become a lot more greener and Eco-friendly.
Proposals have been made for solar cooling and heating roof panels over Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS) corridors and bus stops, rooftop gardens for buildings, solar panel-oriented buses and a policy fixing eco-friendly colour facade for buildings.
Ahmedabad has been included in the list of cities for the development and assessment toolkit project funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The project has been awarded to the Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT) University. The project managers are working in close association of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to develop a city specific green toolkit.
While the toolkit will help in assisting current sustainability situation of Ahmedabad, including projects like BRTS, garbage disposal, water management and others, it also aims at identifying green projects for the AMC to invest in, prioritise these projects and safeguard investments against climate risks.
After the final presentation next month, modalities will be worked out with the AMC for revising the city development plan (CDP).
