joy of giving 1The Joy of Giving Week is India’s “festival of giving”! Launched in 2009, the festival is celebrated every year, in the week including Gandhi Jayanti, i.e., October 2-8, and brings together Indians from all walks of life, to celebrate “giving”.From auto drivers to CEOs, school children to celebrities, homemakers to opinion leaders, millions of people give their time, money, resources or skills back to society- by creating or participating in “events” of their choice

If you are in Bengaluru and wondering how you could participate in the Joy of Giving Week, here is a list of 11 events happening in you city between Oct 2- Oct 8 that will help you decide.

Under the stars

Happening this year for the first time, Under The Stars is a first of its kind event in India inviting 1,500 individuals to sleep rough without shelter for one night on 1st October. Participants must register for a pass by making a donation of Rs.1,500/- to one of the 11 partner NGOs they are supporting or to the common pool, where funds will be divided equally among our NGOs. The event will mark the opening of the Joy of Giving Week.

Food for Change 2013

As a part of ‘Joy of Giving Week’ Bangalore Cares presents an evening of fine music and food. Donors who donate at least Rs 5,000/- to a cause of their choice, will be invited to a special evening where Bangalore’s top star hotels provide gourmet food and eminent artists entertain the donors to say ‘Thank you’. 100% of the amount donated goes to the NGO.

Step Up For A Cause

Step up for a cause is an event that helps raise funds for a cause through dance.The event is happening in numerous apartments and corporates across Bangalore. A dance instructor will be sent to an apartment where s/he will conduct a dance workshop. Participants will be taught a simple enjoyable dance routine for 2 hours where they can let go and experience the joy of dancing while supporting a cause. Participation Fee is just Rs.300 per participant. The collective participation fee will be directed towards schools that support underprivileged children specifically towards training in fine arts and education.

Dil Se 100 !

The IBM Volunteers Group of Aishwarya Trust will be holding a drawing Competition for children of the Govt Higher Primary School,Panathur Post in Bangalore on Oct 3rd 2013.The `Dil Se 100 ` Program will also be launched during this event where Donors will pledge Rs 100 from their salary every month to Aishwarya Trust. This will be part of our Awareness Program for Congenital Heart Defects in children.

Reflecting Our Thanks to Home Guards

The presence of home guards is felt at various traffic junctions regulating traffic at different intersections of the city. Often seen managing traffic and patrolling in Bangalore, they are deployed to manage the public and assist police to ease traffic. These home guards, more or less become a caretaker by helping the pedestrians, especially senior citizens on busy roads. Organized by Namma Bengaluru Foundation, this event will seek to donate REFLECTIVE JACKETS to the Home Guards of Bengaluru.Donate a minimum of Rs. 500/- or more and show your support

Shadow a CEO

Students from ISB, IIM-A,B,C and XLRI get to bid for a chance to shadow some of India’s leading CEOs. The winning bid amount is donated to a charity of the CEO’s choice. It is an online event. Details to come up soon.

Generocity

This is a carnival with fun, food, games, performances, and competitions where 35-40 NGOs set up stalls to display their causes and products. This event will feature the bands Aurko and Lagori.

Shop for a cause

Dignity Foundation – The store that sells products from NGOs is holding a Dignity Bazaar. 20% of funds raised will go to the Dignity Foundation.

Human Chain

Children from different socio economic backgrounds (School Going and Non School Going) will come together to represent solidarity and showcase a sense of Oneness.Over 3000 Participants will be coming together in Central Bangalore.Students from various schools will gather at MG Road with other Joy of Giving Week student participants from across Bangalore, it is significant as this will witness the largest coming together of children from differing socio economic backgrounds to celebrate the Joy of Giving.
